The Singing Firefighter
Steve Honeycutt
Retired firefighter. Full-time musician. The kind of guy who turns a Tuesday night at the bar into something people talk about on Wednesday.
The Story
Music was always there. Long before the fire department, before the academy, before the first call — there was a kid listening to Elvis's vinyl records with his mom at the age of 3. The deep love for music began.
For 21 years, Honeycutt served as a full-time firefighter in Noblesville, IN. He was a long-time drummer who met a fire captain his rookie year that taught him his first real song on guitar. One Willie Nelson song and he was hooked. He played guitar in the firehouse between calls, at backyard cookouts, and with his firehouse brothers whenever possible. Music was the counterweight to everything that came with the job — cathartic and soothing to the soul. Balancing busy nights at the firehouse, run loads, the good and the bad runs, music was like therapy he didn't realize he needed.
When Honeycutt retired, the guitar stopped being a hobby and started being a calling. What began as a few open mics in front of professional musicians turned into regular bookings at restaurants, bars, and private events across Indiana and beyond. His first paid gig was at Ocean Prime Restaurant several years ago. From that point on, he became a requested favorite. Though he has many regularly scheduled gigs, what keeps him going is booking new venues to share his music and meeting new people. Strumming at the firehouse or at a bonfire is where it all began, but playing in front of a live audience is what moves the soul.
On & Off the Stage
What You Get
The Sound
Acoustic covers spanning classic rock, country, Americana, and a few surprises. Songs people know and love, delivered with soul — not karaoke energy. Think The Eagles, Jimmy Buffett, Bob Seger, John Denver, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Zach Bryan, and everything in between.
The Experience
Honeycutt reads the room. A cocktail lounge on a Friday night gets a different set than a lake patio on a Saturday afternoon. Every show is tailored to the crowd, the venue, and the vibe. Professional setup, clean sound, and a presence that fills the room without overwhelming it.
The Details
On time. Self-sufficient. Brings his own PA for small and mid-size rooms. Can coordinate with house sound for larger venues. Flexible set lengths — from a two-hour happy hour set to a full three or four-hour evening. Easy to work with, no drama.
Beyond the Music
When he's not on stage, Honeycutt is usually somewhere with a view. From Morse Reservoir to Yosemite or the woods of southern Indiana, the outdoors is where song lyrics speak to him. While playing a guitar almost everywhere he goes, hiking, boating, and traveling with his wife and kids are his favorite hobbies. Sunsets on the water, riding his motorcycle with the Barnstormers, or a fire on the back porch relaxing with his wife and two dogs is where you may find him. He's a husband, father, musician, and a lover of life. And if you get the chance to meet him, you will want to be his best friend.
